Fun Games
This is a good app to play various versions of Gin Rummy alone, against the computer or with a partner. I have not yet had problems with the game freezing as others have mentioned so perhaps it was repaired since those reviews. Occasionally it doesnt "find" my my husbands I Pad or I Phone, but eventually, if you keep inviting, it will recognize the opponent. This quirk does not happen often.
I agree with some of the other reviewers who noted that the app or computer has the appearance of "cheating." I have played it long enough to see the pattern. Here is an example: I am playing with my partner and 2 Kings are dealt to me. My partner does not know that and if he is holding one King that is not a flush, he will discard it quickly to decrease the points the opponent could receive. Of course when I draw certain cards he may remember and withhold cards that s/he believes I need. That is to be expected so I do not have a problem when the computer keeps cards after I have drawn them. However, the computers "strategy" when holding high point cards is to discard the cards with higher points cards first. Using the example of holding 2 Kings, the computer waits until I finally discard a King to discard its King. I could give numerous examples of the same type of playing because it happens consistently. From the beginning to the end of the game the programming appears to allow the computer to play as if it knows its opponents hand throughout the entire game whether you have picked "easy, medium or hard."
Secondly, just as other reviewers mentioned, it gets great hands and when it doesnt it has a habit of drawing the perfect cards. It often knocks quickly, especially when ones hand is filled with cards of high points. It appears to have "winning" streaks fairly often due to the cards it draws or having a good hand. When I have the opportunity to knock the computer consistently either does not have many remaining cards or high point cards. The contrast when playing with another person is easy to see, as the above does not occur. That being said, I still enjoy the games. The "Achievement Board" is a enjoyable part of the app giving the player goals, which makes the games more challenging. There are very few technical problems. I give it a 5 star rating for those who enjoy Gin Rummy, with one warning. When you play alone with the computer expect to win less than playing with a partner. Occasionally, it "allows" you to get a "winning streak."
